Will President Buhari allow scarcity if he’s running again?

A poser to the presidential villa is “will Buhari allow scarcity of naira notes and fuel if he is running for another term? Secondary school students can answer this particular question with ease.

It’s easier for the camel to pass the eye of the needle than for Nigerians to get the newly redesigned naira notes. They have queued, lamented, protested and complained bitterly over the issue. The really frustrated ones have even engaged in vandalism.

Will president Buhari allow this if he’s a candidate in the next week’s general elections? Will he be comfortable with the development knowing full well that the populace is already angry and may likely vote massively against him? He won’t! He knows the risk.

When elections are approaching, the ruling party always puts things in place to make people feel happy. If the party has been performing woefully in the past, it does adjust its policies just to make the people vote for it again.

However, all what President Buhari has been doing in the past 6 weeks shows otherwise. He is making the All Progressives Congress lose its value out there, unfortunately. In fact Nigerians are more than angry with the party now more than ever, no thanks to the party leader, Buhari.

The Supreme Court had passed its own judgment, the council of state has offered useful pieces of advice. Yet President Buhari is obstinate. He claims that he wants to stem vote buying and selling and hoarding of naira notes.

But should that be at the expense of the party’s chances? The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajamiabila, Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Femi Fani-Kayode and a host of other APC stalwarts have frowned upon the policy.

They have even argued that some cabals in President Buhari’s cabinet are working on Bola Tinubu’s fail. Who are the cabals? There could be no cabals if the president himself doesn’t allow their operations. He must have approved the systematic orchestration of Tinubu’s failure.

Tinubu himself had lamented and had some outbursts in which he claimed (though without evidence) that there are saboteurs. He took a swipe at the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele over the naira redesign.

The president has had more than enough time to redesign the naira. He could have done it when he started his second term. People would have forgotten whatever they had passed through since then. But he didn’t.

He would rather wait till the electioneering period to come up with the anti-people policies. Will President Buhari allow scarcity if he is also running in the forthcoming general elections? He definitely knows it means playing into the hands of the opposition.
