Will Ndigbo vote wrongly again?

Will Ndigbo vote wrongly in this election as well?

Permutations and predictions still continue: one of them is how Ndigbo will vote this time around. Will it be wrongly as it happened in the last two general elections?

The Igbo people have called for presidency. The Ndigbo wants to take power and rule the country for the first time ever. The agitations have been so loud that one would think the PDP and APC would pick their candidates among them.

Ndigbo made mistakes in the 2015 general elections. They voted massively and almost unanimously for the ex president Goodluck Jonathan. He would be the first incumbent to lose an election.

They failed to see the handwriting on the wall. It was clear that time that the former president would lose. The Ndigbo still nursed the acrimony against the Fulani people or perhaps the northern politicians. They still voted for Jonathan, who lost.

Ndigbo backed Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election not because of their love for the northern man. They simply had to choose between the two options: Atiku and Muhammadu Buhari.

They could have corrected their errors that time and tilted towards the incumbent president Buhari. That would have endeared them to the president and helped to lobby for the much agitated Igbo presidency.

Anyway, President Muhammadu Buhari is no more on the ballot. There are now more options for the Ndigbo. They also have their son, Peter Obi, who is using the Labour Party.

Of course, Peter Obi is popular among his people in the southeastern Nigeria. So many of them would decide to vote for him. And it will still be a mistake. And Ndigbo will lag behind the more. Choosing and voting for Obi will mean voting wrongly.

They have rights to vote for whomever they want. But Peter Obi may not be the route to the realization of their aged ambition to lead the country.

The Ndigbo still nurse some inexplicable hatred for the All Progressives Congress and whatever it stands for. They have extended this to the APC candidate Bola Tinubu. Yet they know for sure that their ascension to the presidency is possible on the APC platform.

Would they vote for the People’s Democratic Party? Mr. Ugwuanyi, Enugu state governor, has an axe to grind with Atiku Abubakar. That is another wrong decision.

The Ndigbo ought to have sat down and studied the terrain of ever swinging politics of the country. They vote with sheer bitterness. Whereas the intriguing thing about politics is number, which they lack.

Will Ndigbo vote wrongly again? The possibility is high. They ought to have negotiated and align with either the All Progressives Congress or the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). That can prepare ground for the Igbo presidency.
