Will Ndigbo ever forgive Brymo?

Will Ndigbo ever forgive Brymo? That’s the question that should bother fans of the “popular” afro beat artiste who is now in the eye of the storm.

Olawale Oloforo, popularly called Brymo drew the irk of the Igbo people when he made a derogatory remark on the tribe on Twitter. The people took him on and gave him more than he could demand.

He went to the extreme by cursing the Igbo people and using foul words on them. The Igbo people are the third biggest ethnic group after Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba (southwest).

Shortly after Brymo’s remark, his colleague in the industry, Rudeboy, one of the P-Square twin replied Brymo. Rudeboy said the Yoruba artiste is a tribal bigot and he didn’t mince words to express his disappointment in Mr. Oloforo.

Will Ndigbo ever forgive the artiste? This question is difficult to answer. The Igbo people have often claimed to be sidelined in the country. Since after the civil war, the tribe has occupied the backseat in the political stage of the country.

More than 6,000 people, mainly Igbo people, have signed a petition to stop Brymo from winning an award as the best songwriter of the year. The number increases by the day and that might have made Brymo to tender an apology.

Truly, he has offended a people. But who will accept his apology? He has made the apology public just as his bigotry comment. There is no particular leadership of Igbo people to accept his apology.

The issue of 2023 presidency has generated more issues and controversies. The sidelined tribe feels it’s its turn to produce a president and that anyone who doesn’t support Peter Obi is considered a bigot.

Definitely, the comment Brymo made is condemnable, the debate over the 2023 elections further fuelled the protests against him. Will Ndigbo ever forgive Brymo?
