Wike’s ultimate goal in the general elections
All other politicians have stated their objective for the general elections, but Nyesom Wike’s goal is still beclouded by uncertainty and confusion. The Rivers State governor has kept quiet even though he continues to talk tough using propaganda against his party and Atiku Abubakar.
The Rivers State governor did all he could to get the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party. Atiku Abubakar however showed him that the race isn’t meant for the “boys”. The governor became aggressive and divisive since that time.
Nyesom Wike lost to Mr. Atiku, but rather than teaming up with the ex vice president, Mr. Wike would gather four other governors to start campaigning against the candidate even within the political party.
There is nothing new in that. The most surprising case now is that nobody can outright state Wike’s ultimate goal for the election. He could have decided to anoint another candidate and put his machinery in place to work for such a candidate.
He is perambulating, beating about the bush when he faces the questions of whom he is going to support or whom he is backing right now. Then, one can know that Wike’s ultimate goal is not to ensure that a particular candidate win the poll.
He only wants to ensure that Mr. Atiku Abubakar loses the election to any other candidate. He has refused to endorse Mr. Bola Tinubu, the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress. Understandably, Wike wouldn’t go that far.
But his body language says he doesn’t mind if Bola Tinubu wins. In fact, he was not hesitant to grant an approval to the Presidential Campaign Council of Tinubu to use the stadium for campaign. He went on to also waive the stipulated fee.
The PDP’s PCC had to cancel the campaign rallies in Rivera state. The council gave a reason: insecurity. Yet Bola Tinubu and his APC held a campaign yesterday in that same “insecure” Rivers State.
Wike’s ultimate goal may not be difficult to know then. He doesn’t discriminate against any other candidate other than Atiku Abubakar. His target is to ensure that the former vice president doesn’t make it to the presidential villa.
