The power minister Adebayo Adelabu has explained why constant and reliable power supply will continue to be difficult to achieve for the people of the country. He said that the government may not be able to guarantee stable power supply because the national grid will continue to collapse.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had to debunk a rumour last week that the grid collapsed. The company said that it was a mere trip and Nigerians had power supply that particular day.
Adelabu said that the issue of attacks on the major lines by the terrorists and bandits remains a threat to stable power supply.
“The Kaduna-Shiroro-Mando line was one of the two major lines transmitting power to the north. The second, the Ugwuaji-Makurdi line, was also vandalized but has been repaired. The Shiroro-Mando-Kaduna line, however, remains down due to insecurity,” he said on Monday.
“This is why our grid is so fragile, as it relies on a single line, causing unnecessary strain.”
“We recognise the issues with full or partial grid collapses, but our focus is on reducing the time it takes to restore power. We are actively collaborating with security agencies to achieve this,” Adelabu said.
