Why is White Lion Bello Evading EFCC?

Why Is “White Lion” Yahaya Bello Running Away From EFCC?

There was a media buzz yesterday when the immediate past governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello attempted to evade arrest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He will be the latest ex governor to attract the attention of the commission even though nothing would come out of all the brouhaha.

EFCC was looking for the former governor, who was the youngest to lead a state since 1999. He was accused of misappropriation of funds, money laundering and some other allegations bordering on corruption.

The commission isn’t a masquerader and the former governor ought to surrender himself for questioning, arrest or even prosecution. However, he attempted to hide himself in Abuja and used one of his aides’ phone to make calls. That’s how the commission was able to track him and besiege his Abuja residence.

Out of unprofessionalism, perhaps, the operatives of the commission also attempted to display power, which they didn’t actually have. They wielded their guns and harassed the security personnel attached to the residence of Bello, who ignorantly calls himself “white lion”.

Just then, another puppet on the corridor of power, Usman Ododo, Bello’s successor suffaced at the scene. He left his job in Lokoja to come to obstruct justice in Abuja. He might not know the implication of what he did partly because he is one of those “accidental” leaders of the country.

A Sahara Reporters report said that the incumbent governor smuggled out Bello out of Kogi State. For how long do they think that can be done? They seem to appear penny wise, pound foolish. Or did they attempt or want to escape through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport?

Yahaya Bello is naive. While in government, he committed a number of atrocities and abused power. One would think that he’s bold enough to face anything that comes his way. But he’s naive. What’s the big deal in meeting the EFCC? After all, the Commission would rather puff and deflate. How many past governors have been sentenced? Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti) is still walking as a free man.

The former governor has guilt in his conscience. He impoverished the people of the state further when he was the leader. Kogi State retrogressed further and during his tenure, the state witnessed more violence including political ones. More funds of the state were embezzled. Hence, deep down him, he is already guilty and deserved to spend some time behind the bars. Therefore, he was running away.
