The Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has explained why he didn’t join his colleagues to pay a visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Bourdillon Residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State on Wednesday. State governors converged on the residence to pay homage to Tinubu and greet him for New Year. Mohammed was conspicuously absent.
His absence was further noted because of his rhetoric and threats he issued to the president over the controversial tax reform that the administration of Tinubu is pushing. He said that the president was calling for anarchy with the reform. He later went on to withdraw the statement rather reluctantly.
On Friday, Mr. Bala Mohammed talked through his spokesperson Muhktar Gidado. He explained that he couldn’t join others because he was bereaved. His step mother passed on though at a very ripe age.
“The stepmother of the governor, Hauwa Duguri, passed away on Wednesday, the same day as the New Year visit,” Gidado said. “The governor has been restless. As I speak to you, we are in his country home in Duguri, mourning her loss.
“It is uncalled for to link the governor’s absence to his recent exchanges with the Presidency,” he added, noting that Mohammed was still receiving sympathisers offering condolences.
