Who is sabotaging Tinubu’s ambition?

One immediate question to ask after the Ogun State rally is who is sabotaging Tinubu’s ambition? The APC candidate made some allegations even though he didn’t mention any name while talking to a mammoth crowd in Abeokuta yesterday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate made some comments before the primary election of the party. He alleged that he served Muhammadu Buhari to become the president just as he has done to other aspirants on the platform. He thereafter made the now popular remark, “emi lokan”.

Out of deep frustration and uncertainty he made the comment. Several critics from some quarters said he was wrong to openly talk down the president. But the reality is the now APC candidate must have been pushed to the end.

The same thing is now happening one more time. He talked in the same Abeokuta. He raised an alarm that saboteurs are frustrating his ambition. It will even be better to quote his speech directly.

He said, “They keep fuel, they keep money. They are the ones who know why they are doing that”.

Could he be alleging the money deposit banks? There are several of them. And Bola Tinubu can’t just be pulled down by one or more of the banks. The banks are many and he can decide which to use.

Bola Tinubu, a vocal politician must have considered the need to decipher his speech. He specifically said again, “If you like, change the ink of the naira. We are going to win and the PDP will fall down”.

The Central Bank of Nigeria announced late last year that it would redesign the 200, 500 and 1,000 notes. It argued that the old notes are hoarded without mentioning the hoarders. The apex bank also stipulated a deadline for the validity and acceptability of the old notes.

Does it mean the bank is culpable of sabotaging Tinubu’s ambition? The bank is a financial, and not a political institution. However, most recently, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor dabbled into politics. He obtained the nomination form of the APC and branded some vehicles for his campaign before he shelved the bid.

Mr. Emefiele is one of the most powerful men in Nigeria. He sits on the economy of the country and can influence whatever happens. But he is answerable to the president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu raised an alarm at that time. He wanted Buhari to throw his weight behind him without any condition just as the ex Lagos state governor did to the president in 2014 and 2015. The president seemed to be dragging his feet to pay back the good Tinubu did.

Nevertheless, ever since Bola Tinubu got the ticket, the president, who invariably leads the party, has shown a high level of loyalty and commitment to the “lifelong ambition” of Tinubu.  If it’s not Buhari, then, who is sabotaging Tinubu’s ambition?

Tinubu also said, “The city boy is here. I am the son of the soil. We will take the government from them: the bad people.”
