What now happens to Abdulrasheed Bawa after Tinubu appointed Olukayode as EFCC boss?

That’s the question a netizen asks Online Parrot News shortly after the media organisation announced the appointment of the lawyer, Ola Olukayode as the new chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

The last boss of the anti corruption agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa is currently cooling his heels at the custody of the Department of State Service. The administration of Bola Tinubu arrested him shortly after the incumbent president took over.

Mr. Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria and a human rights activist has called for immediate release of the former EFCC boss. But the administration seems to be dragging its feet as it doesn’t make tangible moves to either prosecute or release Bawa.

Would the Tinubu’s government now let Abdulrasheed Bawa off the hook now that he has made a replacement or it’s not yet uhuru for the young man who found himself heading a powerful arm of the Nigerian Police Force.

The government has obviously refused to try the former boss. Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who was also suspended and arrested, has been to the court and there is some progress on his own case. But what about Abdulrasheed Bawa?

What would happen to him? Controversies often surround the head of the anti corruption agency. But Bawa, the ex EFCC boss shouldn’t be kept behind the bars for this long. The appointment of his replacement should accelerate his prosecution or release.
