What is Delaying Israel’s Ground Invasion of Gaza
The Israeli Defence Force has continually threatened a powerful ground invasion of Gaza Strip. The force has lined up troops and weapons at the northern region of Gaza.
The troops are awaiting an order from the head to invade the blockaded Gaza. The war between Palestinian Hamas and Israel has entered the third week and normalcy is yet to return. The expected ground invasion is causing anxiety in Gaza, southern Israel and Middle East as a whole.
What could be delaying the invasion? This week the United States President Joe Biden travelled to Israel to partly show solidarity for the Jews and find a way to restore peace in the region. That could be a decisive factor that delays the ground invasion.
The president has said that he wouldn’t ask the Israeli military to exercise restraint. He has also warned vested interest in the region to steer clear from the crisis. Joe Biden must have told Benjamin Netanyahu behind closed doors to halt the invasion.
Yet the bombing and airstrikes have not stopped. Israel has launched more attacks on Gaza on the guise of rooting out the Hamas. More than 4,000 Palestinians have died and several more have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the conflict.
Military spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari said, “From today, we are increasing the strikes and minimising the danger.”
The spokesperson said that the Israeli Defence Force intends to minimize the danger on the ground when it goes for ground invasion. Hamas has built lots of tunnels where it keeps its weapons and personnel.
He added, “We will increase the attacks and therefore I called on Gaza City residents to continue moving south for their safety.”
Could it mean that Israel really wants to invade Gaza Strip? When would it then be? The statement from the spokesperson indicates that the military just wants to ensure it’s safe to invade from the ground.
