What Buhari said about new naira notes crisis

The new naira notes has generated crises across the country as protests have erupted in some major cities including Ibadan. And this has made President Muhammadu Buhari to react by releasing a statement.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has come up with redesigning of some notes of naira. And the deadline for the old ones was extended after lots of reactions from top Nigerians.

Buhari said that he is aware of the new naira notes shortage coupled with the hardship that accompanies the development.

He said, “I am aware of the cash shortages and hardship being faced by people and businesses on account of naira redesign”.

The statement on the president’s verified page on Facebook came up after a meeting with governors on the lingering issue. The Central Bank of Nigeria has made Nigerians return the old notes to the banks.

However, new ones are not in circulation for the use of the people, who now form seriously long queues while being burnt by the sun. This has irked Nigerians and caused protests in Ibadan and other parts of Nigeria.

The president further said in the statement, “Nigerians should expect significant improvement between now and February 10 deadline “.

He further assured Nigerians, just as he always does though, “I will ensure that everything is resolved in a lasting manner, and we will all enjoy the long-term benefits of the decision.”

Many businesses have suffered from the scarcity of the new naira notes. The Online Parrot News was at some Automated Teller Machine galleries in a few areas of Ibadan to check the situations of things.

Bank customers lament that they have to queue with no hope or assurance that they will get cash when it reaches their turns. They called on the CBN to look into its decision and find a solution to the problem.

The Online Parrot News saw several queues at banks in Dugbe, Iwo Road, Challenge, and Mokola in Ibadan.
