The Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa has hinted that the military would soon catch up with the head of a terrorist group in northwestern region Bello Turji. The group operates in Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto State holding people to ransom and killing people who are not succumbing.
The military has succeeded in arresting some informants and suppliers of arms and ammunition to the terrorist group. Likewise, the defence chief said that some commanders of Turji have been eliminated.
Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has stepped up its campaign against terrorists and the boss has emphatically said that any community that harbours the bandits would be treated as a target.
Musa was on Channels Television yesterday when he mentioned the efforts being put in place to arrest or remove Bello Turji. He explained that the terrorist leader has gone underground and the forces are also conducting operations.
“The update is that since he knows we’ve been after him, he has been operating underground and we are conducting operations,” the CDS said when asked for an update on Turji who has been on the run for a while.
“What we have been doing, of recent, is that we are picking everybody close to him; all those giving him support in one way or the other, we have picked them, we have killed his commanders. It’s just a matter of time,” the defence chief added.
