War Has Landed On Russia Now – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy
On the occasion of Ukraine’s independence, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said that war has landed on Russia. He was referring to the latest and surprising incursion into the Russian territory by his army.
Ukraine got its independence when the former USSR collapsed in 1991. But there has been rift and enmity between Ukraine and Russia, two former members of the defunct USSR.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February, 2022 in what Vladimir Putin called “special operations”. Kyiv has had to defend its territory, but in a twist of events almost two weeks ago, the Ukrainian forces entered Russian territory capturing key towns and villages and forced Moscow to quickly evacuate civilians in Kursk region.
By launching its 2022 invasion, he said “Russia was seeking one thing: to destroy us. Instead, today we celebrate the 33rd Independence Day of Ukraine. And what the enemy brought to our land has now returned to its home.
“Anyone who wants to sow evil on our land will reap its fruit on their territory,” he added. “This is not a prediction, not gloating, not blind revenge. It is justice.”
Zelensky called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “sick old man from Red Square who constantly threatens everyone with the red button.”
