Mr. Obi Cubana, a very popular socialite owner has become a constant guest at the security agencies and anti corruption commission.
Cubana became more popular when he organised a party for his mother’s burial. The ceremony was the tall of the town throughout last year. Even Nigerians still debate it.
Money rain, drinks, foods, flashy and luxury cars, media coverage dominated the burial. And this must have made the government suspicious of his source of income.
Late last year, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) summoned him to its headquarters to answer some queries. He was accused of money laundering.
The socialite man, who has many clubs, denied any involvement in any form of laundering. He was let off the hook. But the anti graft agency didn’t stop the investigation.
Now the NDLEA has also grilled and interviewed Mr. Obi Cubana. The grilling took place yesterday at a time the issue of EFCC still generates reactions.
The NDLEA interrogated him on the ground that he was involved in narcotics. There were reports that trace some illegal payments into his own accounts.
The payments were allegedly made by three convicted drug merchants in Malaysia, Nigeria and India. Of course, the anti narcotic agency allowed him to go home. It didn’t end that way.
He has been given another appointment and he is expected to bring some documents along with him. The popular celebrity has reacted.
He has given some clues on how he started his club businesses in Abuja in 2006. However, he has not been able to explain how he made his millions, if not billions, of naira.
