Mr. Kayode Fayemi’s tenure is nearing its end. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled another election in which his Successor would be elected. Top four politicians are actually in the race.
Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele appears to be more ambitious than other contenders in the All Progressives Congress. He even believes that it is high time Fayemi received “a bullet” for him.
During the campaign of Fayemi in 2018, there was an accidental discharge of rifle. The bullet hit Opeyemi Bamidele. He was rescued. But that story didn’t end like that. Since he was at the forefront for Fayemi, it should be a payback time.
Whereas Mr. Fayemi prefers his former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji. The secretary resigned early December to contest for the APC ticket to run for the election.
The struggle for the APC ticket seems to be between Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji and Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele. The latter is currently a member of the House of Senate.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is also in the race fully. The part lost power in 2018 and it is preparing to return to the fore of politics now.
Mr. Segun Oni is fully in the race. He seems to have unfinished business in the Ekiti State Government Secretariat. He wants to return as a governor of the state. Oni seems to be confident of winning the ticket of the party.
Mr. Segun Oni returned to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress about one year ago. He said he was back at home. Now his eyes are on the seat presently occupied by Mr. Kayode Fayemi.
Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi can turn the tide and change the direction of politics in Ekiti State. She is a key contender for the ticket of the PDP right now. She is the only PDP senator from Ekiti State and that may work for her. That is the main edge she has over other contender.
