It initially started as a rumour, but gradually it is becoming more popular that Goodluck Jonathan May return to power in 2023. The immediate past president is being projected to return to the Presidential Villa several years after he was defeated.
Jonathan’s return to power shouldn’t have been an issue. The main problem here is that he is being projected to decamp to the All Progressives Congress from the PDP. And it will surely negatively affect the rumoured ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
There is one particular option that may be left for Bola Tinubu right now. He needs to understand one fact that if Buhari snubs him to embrace Jonathan, he should find another way of actualising his desire to lead the country.
Considering all the indications, Tinubu keeps his eyes on the seat occupied by Buhari right now. But if Jonathan becomes APC candidate, all will be almost lost for Tinubu, the national leader of APC.
Tinubu needs to find ways of resuscitating the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). The former Lagos State governor should understand that the pendulum of politics may shift from him towards 2023.
The ACN used to be the most powerful political party in the southwest region and the party was on the verge of gaining a national outlook till the APC was formed from a merge of ACN and other parties.
Of course, there is no other way out. The APC would need to break into fragments. Remember that several fragments came together to form the party. Then, the political system can return to pre 2014 when the APC was formed.
With that, Tinubu would be able to contest for the presidency without hitch on the platform of the ACN. And in the meantime, the APC would have collapsed into fragments as stated above.
Therefore, the 2023 presidential election would be mainly between the candidate of the ACN (unarguably Tinubu) and whomever the PDP presents for the race.
