Tinubu Is Lying, He’s Paying Subsidy – Obasanjo
An ex president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has slammed President Bola Tinubu as paying subsidy while claiming that the policy, which used to help keep the cost of petroleum low, is gone.
On 29 May, 2023 Tinubu announced to the shock of Nigerians that subsidy on the very essential commodity is gone. He received backlashes as well as commendation. But the decision to do away with the programme has been linked to the current hardship millions of Nigerians are now facing.
On Tuesday, the former president said that the subsidy isn’t gone and that the administration of Tinubu is still paying it. Obasanjo wouldn’t be the first to make this claim though the government has been reluctant to respond.
“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not just wake up one morning and say you removed the subsidy. Because of inflation, the subsidy that we have removed is not gone. It has come back,” Obasanjo said.
He also highlighted the need for investor confidence in Nigeria, stating, “You have to go from a transactional economy to a transformational economy.”
