Kogi people storm INEC headquarters, call for Yakubu’s departure over the 2023 Gubernatorial Election which SDP’s Ajaka lost.

Supporters and enthusiasts of the candidate of Social Democratic Party in the just concluded Kogi State gubernatorial election have stormed and held a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Murtala Ajaka came second behind the winner of the election, Mr. Usman Ahmed Ododo. But the supporters of the first runnerup were not pleased with the results of the election.

After the final collation of the results from across the 21 local government areas, INEC announced Ododo as the winner with 446,237 and Ajaka has 259, 052 to come second.

They alleged that the electoral commission manipulated the exercise in favour of the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress. They carried placards with lots of inscriptions including “INEC has murdered democracy”.

The protesters also called on the resignation of the INEC chairman Yakubu Mahmud. There have been no comment yet from the electoral commission.

The SDP candidate Ajaka said that he wouldn’t go to court to fight over the outcome of the election.
