The senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District in the House of Senate, Ajibola Bashiru, has sent a strong message to Mr. Rauf Aregbesola and other opponents of Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the state governor.
Mr. Aregbesola has formed a key gang up against the state governor and his reelection bid. Mr. Oyetola is qualified to run for second term in office. But Aregbesola doesn’t want him stay in the Bola Ige House beyond 2022.
The two of them lead a separate camp in the All Progressives Congress and each attempts to have the authentic leadership of the party. This manifested in the parallel congresses conducted within the state chapter of the party.
But Mr. Ajibola Bashiru has told the politicians including Mr. Aregbesola that no matter how they gang up against Mr. Oyetola, the governor will emerge for the second term. INEC had already fixed a date for the election.
At least three top politicians have joined the camp of Aregbesola. A former SSG, Mr. Moshood Adeoti, the immediate past House of Assembly speaker, Najeem Salam, and Mr. Lasun Yussuf, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives are in Aregbesola’s camp.
But Mr. Ajibola Bashiru, who is a principal officer in the Senate, argued that the opponents within the APC can obtain the form and contest for the APC primary election. But Ajibola Bashiru warned that they shouldn’t abuse the governor.
The spokesperson of the House of Senate didn’t mince words when he made a declaration. He gave his support to the governor for a second term. He revealed his decision in a ceremony in Igbajo to mark the opening of some projects.
