Senate Should Sack INEC Chairman Yakubu – Atiku’s Spokesperson
Mr. Paul Ibe, the spokesperson for the former vice president Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, has called for the removal of Mr. Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission just as the lawmakers decided and voted to sack the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Danladi Umar.
Two-third of the senators yesterday voted to sack Umar. The Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele said that there were several petitions against the chairman of the Tribunal, hence, the house sacked him.
Ibe said that Yakubu is partial and he’s one of the worst public officials in the country. He therefore called on the Senate to remove the INEC boss as well.
“Yes, Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), is one of the worst public officials of our time. But the gold medal for gross partisanship by any public official actually belongs to the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu. The question is, if it was that easy for the Nigerian Senate to sack Umar on account that any public official screened by the Upper House can be removed by it, why is it pussy footing in the sack of the INEC Chairman?”
