The Nigerian Super Eagles have broken a record in the ongoing 33rd African Cup of Nations. The Nigerian squad defeated the Pharaoh of Egypt.

The much awaited game ended in 1 – 0 in favour of the West African country. And the result of the match showed the first time in sixteen games Egypt would suffer a defeat in the opening game.

Egypt, the most crowned country in the AFCON, has not been beaten in the sixteen group games they have played in the competition. The Nigerian Super Eagles have ended the unbeaten streak.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s 13th minute powerful strike was enough to sink Mohammed Salah’s Egypt in Cameroon.

The Egyptians have won the trophy seven times and they will look forward to beating Sudan and Guinea Bissau in the remaining two group matches.

Nigeria was without a top striker including Odion Ighalo and Victor Oshimen. Yet the squad were able to put an end to the unbeaten run of the North African team.
