Put heavy security in Katsina State for the rerun or your staff be kidnapped – Shehu Sani tells INEC
A former federal lawmker from Kaduna State, Shehu Sani has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of rerun in neighboring Katsina State.
The former senators said that Faskari and Kankara Local government areas in Katsina State are highly volatile as the two local government areas prepare for a rerun in the federal constituency.
The wider northern region is volatile. Insecurity is rife and bandits, lawmakers operate without hinderance putting the people of the area in their mercy.
Shehu Sani admonished the electoral commission to put heavy security in place so as to forestall kidnapping of its staffers in the local government areas.
He said “How rerun election can be held in parts of Bandits infested federal legislative faskari and Kankara Lgs in Katsina State will be left to be seen. Serious security arrangements have to be made to prevent the kidnapping of Inec officials,” using the platform of X, formerly known as Twitter.
A Court of Appeal ordered INEC to conduct election in 20 polling units in the two areas within 30 days.
The Court of Appeal agreed with the election petition tribunal which declared the federal constituency election inconclusive. INEC had in February, 2023 announced the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner.
