The real reason VON Director General Okechukwu is in EFCC custody is the mismanagement of public funds. The anti corruption agency detained and interrogated the director general.
It was shocking that Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the director general of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) would land in the net of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.
The EFCC invited him and he arrived at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja. Upon his arrival at the headquarters, the commission detained him and started the interrogation.
The commission is investigating him for abuse of office, conspiracy and mismanagement of public funds to the tune of one point three billion naira (N1.3bn).
According to Sahara Reporters, a source in the EFCC talked about the arrest and detainment of Osita Okechukwu, the director general of the VON.
The source said, “Osita Okechukwu, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, was consequently detained and interrogated about his alleged involvement in the fraud. He is still in custody as we speak.”
Some may believe that the real reason VON Director General Okechukwu is in EFCC custody is because of APC politics. He has been canvasing for Igbo presidency. That may not be the case.
He has also asked the president, Muhammadu Buhari to release the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. But that’s not the real reason VON director general is in EFCC custody.
He is facing allegations bordering on misappropriation of public funds. The EFCC doesn’t have interest in the politics. And the VON Director General Okechukwu isn’t the only person to call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
