Putin’s key aim in the Ukrainian conflict

1

Putin’s key aim in Ukraine may not be to destroy or kill as many millions of people as possible. His particular focus may be really simple for Ukraine to do.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered special military operations on Ukraine. When it was dark, the Russian forces entered Ukraine through its southern and eastern borders.

Ukraine’s main cities including Kyiv, and regions Donbas came under shelling. The initial attack was swift and precise and Putin said that the airbase and other infrastructure were the targets.

The number of casualties remains unverifiable, but there is a latest plane crash in which up to fifty persons were on board. A layman may wonder why Putin is attacking or invading Ukraine.

Russia doesn’t intend to take back Ukraine with its 44 million people. Even in term of landmass, Russia is the largest followed by Ukraine in Europe.

Vladimir Putin doesn’t state that he wants to rebuild the defunct Soviet Union (USSR). And he doesn’t say he wants to expand the tentacles of Moscow.

What he wants from Ukraine is neutrality. The European Union needs to have Ukraine on board so as to further expand its reach in the Eastern Europe.

The union has wooed Kyiv to join the bloc which has more 28 members. The same thing is applicable to the powerful and military North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The two organisations want Ukraine to be part of them. In order to get closer to know Russia, the EU and the NATO need a Russian neighbor as ally. Belarus has identified itself with Russia.

Putin’s key aim is therefore to make sure that Ukraine doesn’t join either of the two top organisations for sovereign states (the EU and the NATO). Russia wants neutrality.

NATO came into existence after the cold war between the East and the West. NATO belongs to the Western bloc and it wants to deter Russian aggression.

Putin has asked the Ukrainian army and its personnel to drop their weapons and go to meet their families. Its obvious he doesn’t want hijacking the country. He only wants neutrality.

If the reason why Russia is attacking Ukraine is to prevent them from joining either NATO or EU, then NATO not supporting them by sending forces is total betrayal on their part. They are being attacked because of them. Ducking betrayals
