Will Protest Against Tinubu Start From North?

Any protest against President Bola Tinubu starting from the conservative northern region would have serious meanings and implications. The region knows how to adapt to uncomfortable situations as shown when ex president Muhammadu Buhari was in power. There was no dissidents from that particular region against his administration.

When it comes to nepotism, favouritism and even bad governance, Buhari’s government was second to none though it said it wanted to fight corruption and rejig the economy of the country.

But the voices of protests are echoing straight from the north. The southern region is revolutionary compared to reactionary south. One would expect the northern region to maintain its stance against showing demonstration against leadership.

An Islamic scholar, Sheik Ahmad Gumi on Monday called for a nationwide protest against President Bola Tinubu saying that Nigerians are facing hardship orchestrated by the hurriedly made policies of the government.

He said that there was protest against Goodluck Jonathan when he was in power. But he couldn’t cite any instance of protest against Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner just like outspoken Gumi.

Things might have been better if the northern region didn’t sit back in 2021 when Lagos and the whole of southwest geopolitical zone were boiling over Endsars matters.

Northern Initiative for Growth has written a letter to the Inspector General of Police to give notice of its planned protest. Organisers of demonstration said that early August would be days of rage. The group said that it would protest in some keg areas of Bauchi, the capital of Bauchi State.

Online Parrot News recognises the place of protest in democracy. But the current one seems to have political undertones. It is aimed at pulling down the government. The conservative northern region is not comfortable with the leadership of a southern Nigerian. Repeatedly, the have threatened to vote out Tinubu in 2027, but they are exhausting their patience, hence they badly want the protest.

Will the protest start from the north? One knows how violent demonstration from that part of the country can be. They will go haywire targeting southerners and people who practice any religion other than the popular one in the geopolitical zone.
