Peter Obi on the verge of losing southwest as LP collapses structure
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 general elections Peter Obi is on the verge of losing the southwest geopolitical zone.
Losing the zone can invariably affect the results of the presidential election. Even the candidate may not be able to come second with the development in his party. The southwest Labour Party has decided to collapse its structure for the All Progressives Congress and Bola Tinubu.
The APC candidate Tinubu is from southwest region which comprises Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo State. The candidate has a much stronger chance in the area compared to other candidates. And the last shred of chances may be over for Peter Obi.
The southwest Labour Party argued that the candidate can’t win the election. The chairman of the party in southwest, Mr. Banji Omotoso made this disclosure in Akure, Ondo state capital on Monday. The Labour Party had ruled the state in the past.
The chairman said, “The Labour Party presently is a shaking platform for anybody to contest, it is a failure platform for anybody to contest, I don’t know Peter Obi and I’m less concerned about him but I’m concerned about those who are celebrating the Labour Party mediocre within Nigeria.”
The ex Anambra State governor himself had claimed that he didn’t need any political structure to win the election. He said the people of the country are his “structure”.
The event happened as Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, who is rooting for Tinubu under Southwest Agenda (SWAGA) met with the Labour Party leaders in the southwest to convince them of the candidacy of Bola Tinubu.
According to the Punch Newspaper, Mr. Omotosho said that he wouldn’t allow Obi to come and embarrass them even though he didn’t explain further.
He said further, “The Labour Party is not ready to serve Nigeria and that is why we decided to leave the party and come together to the APC. I collapsed the structures of the party in Ekiti State. So, I don’t know how the Obi can come now and embarrass us here in the South-West.”
