PDP Is Dead In Osun State – Tinubu’s Minister

A former governor of Osun State and current minister of blue economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party is dead in the state. He said this on Friday.

Our correspondents were at the welcome party for the defectors from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress. Late yesterday’s night, Online Parrot News got a copy of the resignation letter of a former national vice chairman of the PDP Shuiab Oyedokun from the PDP. He has joined the APC.

He was not the only person to dump the PDP, a former governorship aspirant, Mr. Dotun Babayemi also led his loyalists from across the state to the APC. He had a running battle with the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.

In his speech, President Bola Tinubu’s Minister, Oyetola, said that the fortune of the PDP has nosedived.

He further said, “It is an irony that we lost an election over a year ago and there has been no major defection from the party. What we have is the reverse. It is the ruling party that is coming to us, which shows that APC remains a party to beat. We have done so well, and people are starting to see that when it comes to governance, the progressive knows how to.

The way President Bola Tinubu has been governing us, that is what the APC governors in their respective states have been doing. I am delighted for the fact that we are not just getting anybody, but people of substance. Like Baba Shuaib, he is a veteran member of the PDP, decamping to the APC. It shows that PDP doesn’t exist any longer here.

“I am confident that in 2026 we are going to take over the state. This is just the beginning because several people are willing to come back to us, and a lot of political heavyweights are coming to join us.”

Both Ademola Adeleke and Adegboyega Oyetola slugged it out in the last two gubernatorial elections in the state. Having declared the election inconclusive earlier by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Oyetola of the APC won the 2018 poll only to suffer defeat in 2022.

Mr. Adeleke and Babayemi held parallel primary elections in 2022. Aftermaths of the election included expulsion of the Gbongan prince and his eventual defection to the APC.
