Osun State PDP primary holds tomorrow. There have been some intrigues surrounding the exercise. But at least four top contenders are in the race to pick up the ticket.
The All Progressives Congress has already conducted its own primary election. The ruling party will know its main opponent tomorrow if the exercise holds.
Mr. Ademola Adeleke has not given up his ambition to lead the people. He was fully in the race in 2018 when he took on now Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Mr. Adeleke was the winner of the PDP primary election, which was between him and Akin Ogunbiyi. They both slugged it out in the PDP’s race for the ticket. He eventually defeated the closest rival.
Akin Ogunbiyi also wants a rematch of what happened in 2018. He felt bitter that he couldn’t win the ticket that time. The race was between him and Ademola Adeleke. He even believed he was politically robbed.
He initially distanced himself from the affairs of the party. But while the next governorship election was drawing closer, he became active. He has got the PDP’s nod to contest for the ticket.
Ogunbiyi would be relying on his array of followers who helped him in 2018. He may also get some external supports most especially from the neighboring states including Ekiti and Oyo.
Prince Dotun Babayemi, the flag bearer of the ADP in 2019 general elections, is a top contender. Babayemi has come thus far to wrestle with other top names in the Osun State PDP primary.
The emergence of Babayemi can stun several pundits. He joined the People’s Democratic Party shortly after the general elections. He had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Action Democratic Party.
Mr. Babayemi was unable to get the Osun West Senatorial District seat in 2019. Hence, he joined the PDP. It was believed that he would fight for the same seat in the PDP.
Surprisingly, he swerved and decided to jostle for the governor’s office at Bola Ige House, Osogbo. Babayemi will rely on support of the people he met during his political tour.
The PDP primary election will be a battle of titans. There are obstacles on ground, but the three men would slug it out in Osogbo.
