Osun State begins distribution of palliatives The Osun State Government under Mr. Ademola Adeleke has commenced the distribution of palliatives to the residents of the state. This was made known by the commissioner of information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi in Osogbo.
Earlier the Osun State Government has confirmed receipt of 3,000 bags of rice from the federal government. The government shared the rice to all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to cushion the effects arising from the removal of fuel subsidy.
The government also said that it has received a sum of #2bn from the federal government. A total sum of #5bn was given to each state with part of the fund being a loan. Mr. Kolapo Alimi said that the state government would use the timetable it has designed to distribute the food item to everyone.
He stated further, “Similarly, Osun State has received two billion naira out of five billion naira palliative money earmarked for the state by the federal government. The template and modalities of payment will be made by the palliative committee at the forthcoming meeting “.
There have been trades of words between the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State over the distribution of the food. The opposition party has accused Mr. Ademola Adeleke and his party of hoarding the food rather than sharing it as instructed by the federal government.
Mr. Kolapo Alimi urged the people of the state, most especially the beneficiaries to be orderly while receiving their shares of rice.
He said, “as the distribution and collection of the rice palliative begins, we urge our people to be orderly, and as a government, we assure everyone that the palliative given to the state by the federal government will get to the target beneficiaries across the state”.
