Osun APC crisis takes another dimension

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another dimension. The party has been battling internal wrangling since 2018 when Mr. Rauf Aregbesola left power. His successor, the APC candidate in the 2018 gubernatorial election, struggled to beat his rival that time.

The party has now suspended 110 members of the party. The suspension came in two batches with the first one coming up on Wednesday with 86 members and chieftains being suspended. Another 24 were suspended on Thursday as APC crisis drags on.

The Osun APC Chairman released a statement on Thursday which said that the suspended members and stalwarts are loyal to ex governor Rauf Aregbesola. The former governor’s allies have refused to work for the interest of the party.

The statement said that the Aregbesola’s supporters were subject to disciplinary committee and the state executive committee of the party has deliberated upon the findings.

Former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Moshood Adeoti, former Speaker of the House of Assembly Najeem Salam, Adelowo Adeniyi among others have been suspended.

“This disciplinary measure came in response to the allegations of misconduct bordering on factionalization of the party and creating parallel party organ.

“The Disciplinary Committee undertook a thorough and impartial review of the allegations and the findings were carefully deliberated upon by the State Executive Committee.

“As we move forward, we enjoin our members to remain focused on our goals and continue working together to serve the interests of our constituents and our State. Our commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and adherence to our party’s core values.”
