Osun APC: Aregbesola’s Camp Makes Tough Demand From Oyetola

0

As the lingering crisis in the All Progressives Congress, Osun State chapter persists, the Aregbesola’s camp has made a very tough demand from the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The Osun State APC is already spilt into two uneven parts. The state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola holds one group while his predecessor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola controls the other one.

The APC reconciliatory committee under the control of Senator Abdullahi Adamu was in Osun State to reconcile party members and leaders over the crisis. And in the course of the meeting, Aregbesola’s camp made the demand.

The camp asked Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola to resign from the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee. It will be recollected that Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola was among the top members appointed to control the APC.

Following the dismissal of Adams Oshiomhole and the dissolution of the National Working Committee, a caretaker committee was put in place. Oyetola is still among the members of the committee.

After the meeting with Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s committee, the chairman of The Osun Progresives, Mr. Lowo Adebiyi, told the newsmen, “At the meeting, we demanded the resignation of Governor Oyetola from APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee because he cannot be a judge in his case.”

It is not yet clear if the committee would consider this particular demand. The caretaker committee is expected to organize a convention in February. Any form of resignation would hamper the exercise.

At the same time, the APC primary election would soon be conducted in Osun State. And what Aregbesola’s camp wants is a level playing field. Without Oyetola’s resignation, the primary may be influenced.

Meanwhile, Aregbesola’s faction has recently attracted more stalwarts and chieftains of the APC. Among them were Mr. Najeem Salam (a former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly).

Mr. Lasun Yussuf, who is the immediate past deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and Mr. Moshood Adeoti, ADP candidate in 2018 are also in Aregbesola’s camp.
