Crisis will engulf Nigeria if Kanu isn’t released – Ohanaeze
The Indigenous People of Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Service. Efforts to secure his release so far have produced no fruit even though courts have ordered the secret police to let him off the hook.
The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called for immediate release of the leader of the proscribed group. The sociocultural organisation says that Nigeria risks being engulfed in a crisis that will start soon if the leader isn’t released.
The Supreme Court has adjourned Nnamdi Kanu’s case to December, 2023 and the Ohanaeze youth wing through Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, its National President General has condemned the adjournment.
The President General said, “If Nigeria is a country where there’s a genuine, constitutional sense of the power separation between the executive and the judiciary, the conspiracy of long debilitating and/or annoying adjournment of Nnamdi Kanu’s case to far away December, 2023 wouldn’t be conceivable but for, unfortunately, the sick judiciary of ours in Nigeria which has, hitherto, been the most corrupt judiciary in Africa without any iota of independence.”
He warned that President Bola Tinubu must must realize that holding Nnamdi Kanu and disobeying several courts that have set him free is simply nursing a beast that would cause anarchy leading to the destruction of Nigeria.”
Therefore, Ohanaeze said, “In the light of the above, I honestly urge the Nigerian Government to earnestly work for a possible referendum for the Igbos to avert a looming bloody crisis that would soon engulf Nigeria.”
