Obi’s leprous hands: Tinubu’s albatross

He may not be among the first two in the election, but Peter Obi’s leprous hands are an albatross for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress. That one should be at the back of several who campaign for the ex Lagos state governor.

There is one Yoruba proverb on leprous hands. They can’t make milk, but can pour it away. That’s exactly the role Mr. Peter Obi may play in the election as a matter of fact.

The candidate of the Labour Party must have been convinced that he stands no chance to woo the northern voters. The spate of insecurity and the unhealed Biafra civil war will ceaselessly hurt him. Yet Obi’s leprous hands won’t let Tinubu go.

Among the southern christians, the Labour Party and its presidential candidate has been able to woo many. They have embraced the political party critics say lacks structure. They will surely vote for him.

The division of the votes from southern region, rather than going straight into someone’s party, say APC, is a signal of proverbial Obi’s leprous hands.

Youths, and radical voters who are understandably tired of the current government of the APC, won’t go for another far option. They will queue behind the ex Anambra State governor. But Obi can’t win the poll. That is the fact though hard to take.

The All Progressives Congress-led government has made it tougher for the people in recent time. Petrol is scarce and expensive. Likewise naira notes of big denominations aren’t available. Pockets of violent protests have been recorded across the country.

And southern region hosts the most radical of all voters. They cast their votes based on a critical analysis of the parties and candidates. They may retaliate Buhari’s government policies in the poll on 25 February.

Tinubu faces a tough opponent from north. Atiku Abubakar isn’t a green horn in the race for the presidency. The ex vice president has been part of the system since 1993 when he contested against the Late MKO Abiola at the Jos Convention of the SDP.

Now may be his time. He may have deployed the Labour Party candidate to spilt the southern region votes. Peter Obi’s leprous hands will cause a setback for the candidate of the APC.

Northern Elders Forum leader Ango Abdullahi pointed out in a viral video that north has four more years to spend in power. The message is clear: north will go for Atiku Abubakar.

The task would have been easy if Obi isn’t in the race. His participation will hold down Bola Tinubu. Even the APC candidate should expect some shocking results in Lagos state, his domain.
