A presidential hopeful Peter Obi has paid a visit to a “father figure” Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida at his residence in Minna, the capital of Niger State. Obi was travelling from Jigawa State where he had gone to console the governor who lost both mother and his son within 24 hours.
Obi said that he was happy to visit the former military president, and used the opportunity to wish him an happy New Year. Obi said he also discussed some national issues with the only Nigerian military president.
The Labour Party presidential candidate came third in the last presidential election though claiming victory in a number of key states including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory. He has debunked a report that he would collapse his structure to allow a merger which is believed to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the APC.
On his X account, the former Anambra State Governor said, “From Jigawa state, I travelled to Minna, Niger State to pay a visit to a father figure, elder statesman and leader, the former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, at his residence in Minna, Niger State. The visit was an opportunity to wish him a happy New Year and to exchange thoughts on national issues.
“General Babangida’s wisdom and perspectives remain very important and I always deeply appreciate the chance to visit him and listen to his invaluable advise and words of wisdom.”
