Edo Gov Obaseki squanders almost N1bn on bank charges and additional N670m on meals for just 3 months
The mismanagement of public funds doesn’t end in just one state. Several state governors including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Rotimi Akeredolu, Ademola Adeleke have been in the eye of the storm for spending taxpayers money on food and welfare packages. Godwin Obaseki isn’t excluded.
Sahara Reporters has given a exclusive report in which the Edo State governor spent nine hundred and seventy tree million naira on bank charges. It’s both comical and annoying that close to a billion naira will be spent on bank charges within just three months.
Commercial banks take charges for alert and VAT and electronic levy. But thousands of naira would be enough for such no matter how huge the amount of the money may be. The Edo State governor wants his people to believe that the banks have taken almost a billion naira.
Edo State is one of the most impoverished states in the federation. The people struggle to make ends meet, they are faced with persistent flooding, poor roads, unequipped hospitals and schools and the best way the government can spend the money is by paying a billion naira for bank charges.
