Obasanjo backs Igbo presidency for 2023

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo backs Igbo presidency in 2023. The top elder statesman, who just clocks 85, has even called for Igbo presidency next year.

Obasanjo has received so many politicians who have interest in the Presidency. He has welcomed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his vice while in power. But Obasanjo believes that Igbo should taste power.

The ex president made the disclosure while he was receiving Sam Ohuabunwa, a presidential hopeful in the People’s Democratic Party. Sam Ohuabunwa is seeking the ticket of the PDP.

He will be the second Igbo politician to join the race. Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, a former president of the Senate, is also in the race for the PDP’s ticket. Sam Ohuabunwa was in Abeokuta to seek the support of Obasanjo.

The former president said that Igbo people can bring a lot to the table if elected. Mr. Obasanjo wasn’t specific about what they are capable of bringing.

He further stated that Igbo presidency will bring peace to the country. He said, “beyond bringing unity to Nigeria or being the cement that holds Nigeria together, I believe that southeasterners (sic) can model hardwork and entrepreneurship.”

Obasanjo didn’t explain how Igbo president would bring peace to the country. There is unrest in the region.

The Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra are upsetting the area.

They often declare and enforce sit-at-home orders in the area. They do this to show solidarity for the detained IPOB agitator, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

Obasanjo talked more about the prospects of having an Igbo president.

He stated, “This will help in wealth creation and fight against poverty, which is ravaging the country”.

More politicians from the southeast are into the struggle or quest for the top office. Mr. Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Mr. Rochas Okorocha are also in the race.

This will be the first time Igbo politicians will come out in large number to show interest and now the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo backs Igbo presidency.
