The Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike has continued to engage in verbal war with his successor Simi Fubara boasting that nobody made him the Rivers State Governor, not even his former boss, former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonathan appointed Wike as a minister and he propelled him to pick up the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and gave full support to let him win the gubernatorial election.
At that time, there was a rift between Rotimi Amaechi, who had joined the All Progressives Congress, and the former president. Wike was the most appropriate person to support at that time to win Rivers State.
A video is circulating online showing a former first lady Patience Jonathan raising Wike’s hand as the president’s anointed candidate in Rivers State.
In an event to honour his loyalists on Friday, Mr. Wike said that nobody gave him the job of governor. He explained at the event that he fought for the structure of the party and took it from Magnus Abe.
Wike said, “You didn’t give me. To be governor of Rivers State 2014, I fought for the party structure. I took it from Magnus Abe, yes, I did.
“So you can’t say you made me Governor. Nobody, I don’t want to make comments about certain people, I won’t do that.”
Magnus Abe was at the event on Friday and Wike specifically pointed at him along with another party chieftain Victor Giadom.
“You Magnus, all of you, Victor Giadom, I fought you people, took the party structure.
“So, nobody can say I brought Wike, I dashed you. Nobody can say that. But it would be unfair to me, to Almighty God, for me to say nobody supported me.
“No you can’t say that. You need people’s support, but not to say you gave me.”
