NLC and TUC set for total strike across Nigeria

The Nigeria Labour Congress and its sister union, Trade Union Congress have jointly called a national strike and a total showdown with the federal government.

The labour unions had already observed a 3-day warning strike earlier September. But the unions explained that there’s no seriousness on the part of the government to meet their demands.

Both NLC and TUC jointly released a communique after their protracted meeting on Tuesday. The NLC president Joe Ajaero and the TUC leader Festus Osifo signed the release.

They alleged that there is no agreement between the federal government and the workers, whom they represent. And that the federal government under Bola Tinubu has failed to show commitment to its responsibilities.

The unions also talked about the lingering crisis at he headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

As a result of the issues, the NLC and TUC said they would embark on a total showdown with the federal government from 3 October indefinitely.
