The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has given a condition to retain Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Mr. Eguavoen, who is currently an interim manager, is leading the Nigerian squad in the ongoing nations cup in Cameroon.
His appointment followed the sacking of Mr. Gernort Rohr at a time the Nigerian team was gearing up for the 33rd AFCON in Cameroon.
And since his appointment, he has been able to make Nigerian football enthusiasts proud by making six points from two matches.
His biggest challenge came when he led the team to face the Pharaohs of Egypt in the first match. He also beat falcons of Sudan.
But Mr. Amaju Pinnick, who has been accused of being obsessed to foreign coaches, believes Eguavoen has won nothing but points.
He told the AFP, “We are yet to win anything here except points.” But the Super Eagles’ camp has been elated with the results so far.
Mr. Pinnick said that if Eguavoen wins the African Cup of Nations, the NFF might have a rethink. A Portuguese coach has already been announced to take over.
Pinnick announced, “If Eguavoen won the Cup of Nations, we might have a rethink. In that case, the foreign coach would become the technical director.”
The NFF boss explained that Eguavoen would be more consequential if he controls the technical department.
He said,
“but we also know that he will be more useful controlling the technical department.”
