New Zealand PM Arden resigns
New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden as stepped down from her post. The 42-year-old said she is bereft of more ideas in the “tank”. Hence, she has decided to leave the office.
She effectively led the country through the COVID-19 pandemic and other natural disasters that bedeviled the country. She announced her decision in a press conference while shedding tears at the same time according to Reuters.
Arden said, “This summer, I had hoped to find a way to prepare for not just another year, but another term – because that is what this year requires. I have not been able to do that.”
The New Zealand Labour Party, which is currently in power, will vote on Sunday to elect another leader and ultimately a new Prime Minister to replace Arden. The next general elections hold in October.
She became popular in 2017 when she emerged as the youngest leader in the world at the age of 37.
