Tinubu’s government suspends N-Power programme without paying backlogs of stipends

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has suspended the N-Power programme which his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari put in place to assist millions of youths in the country.

The incumbent president had assured Nigerians that he would work for their interests and continued from where Buhari stopped. However, the programme, which has up to 1 million beneficiaries has been suspended.

The Buhari’s administration enrolled three batches with the last one being batch C (stream 1 & 2). The beneficiaries are still being owed up to 10 months backlog stipends.

The programme, which is under NASIMS, empowers youths with N30,000 stipend every month for two years. But the current beneficiaries are going to their primary place of assignments without getting their stipends.

The minister, Dr. Betta Edu announced the suspension of the programme on Saturday.

The 36-year-old said, “Because, Batch One (1) which had finished 2 years ago and should be off the table, but are shouting Npower N-Power. Batch Two (2) which had finished September last year that should have exited the programme, but still on the table shouting Npower Npower. But definitely, Those who were brought in as the last batch who have not been fully enrolled, some of them enrolled and have not been paid, these people we will pay them.”
