The Theatre Art and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria have reacted to the sudden death of a popular thespian, Murphy Afolabi, who was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday.
Mr. Afolabi reportedly fell in his bathroom at his Lagos home. He was later declared dead and reactions have been following the news of his demise.
The Osun State chapter of TAPMAN talked through its secretary, Mr. Adedayo Adeyemi. He said that directives have been given to the practitioners in Osogbo to converge on Monday as they await the burial arrangements from the family.
He revealed that the association initially doubted the news when it was broken.
He said, “he was one of our biggest Nollywood stars from Osun here. His death hit us hard. It shocked all of us, his kinsmen from Osun, his state of origin.”
The TAPMAN secretary further disclosed that Murphy Afolabi’s younger brother later confirmed the news when the association contacted him.
He said, “Members of TAMPAN from Osun did not believe the news. We initially doubted it, until it was confirmed by Murphy’s younger brother living with him in Lagos.”
His colleagues have also expressed their shock at the demise of the top Nollywood actor, Murphy Afolabi. Colleagues in the industry said that he was full of life.
