The Arewa Consultative Forum, the largest sociocultural organisation in the northern region, has slammed the military over its response to the bombing of some communities in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Online Parrot News reported that almost a dozen people lost their lives when the military conducted airstrikes on the communities it says are harbouring Lakurawa bandits and terrorists. Civilians lost their lives, but the military said that they were legitimate targets because they kept the criminals.
However, the ACF is not happy with the military for its statement. The forum called the statement “insensitive” and it had called for a comprehensive investigation.
Th northern group talked through its national publicity secretary Professor Tukur Muhammed-Baba in a statement.
“The bland response of a spokesperson of the military insisting that the attack was on a planned target was most insensitive,” said the ACF spokesman.
He added, “We are deeply troubled and saddened by the Silame incident, as one far too many in the country.”
