Makinde to Compensate Owners of Properties Demolished for Circular Road

The administration of Governor Seyi Makinde says it will compensate owners of properties it destroyed in order to pave way for the much celebrated circular road which it has accomplished. Online Parrot News reported that the government had to demolish buildings, structures in order to construct the road.

Last month, residents and properties owners of the affected areas including Adepo, Ajia, Ona Ara, Badeku, Aba-Otun, Alago, Origbo, Idi-Ose, Ire-Akari Ogundepo, Aba-Oye, Aba-Ogo, Ariirori, Ayegun, Kusidi, Ana’ye, Olomi-yeye, Orire, Olorun-Toyin cried out to the governor accusing him of grabbing their land for the landmark project.

The residents who voiced their opposition in a statement said, “Over the past months, we have witnessed attempts by the Seyi Makinde government to take ownership of our lands for the Circular Road Project with the ongoing demolition spree in our respective communities.

“This is an egregious violation of our rights. The proposed expansion of the road setback from 150m to 500m is the government’s attempt to profit from the land at the expense of local residents. This is an abuse of power and an affront to the rights of our people.”

The government reacted on Tuesday through the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade. He revealed the plan of the government pertaining the compensation for the affected people. He said that the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Williams Akin-Funmilayo had had a meeting with the people

Oyelade said a total of N513,462,446.50k (N513.4 million) had been earmarked as compensation to the affected claimants.
