Liverpool and Chelsea: key points to note

Liverpool and Chelsea drew in an English Premier League st Anfield. Both teams have had a very poor season so far as they sit at the bottom of the league’s table.

One particular thing to note is that Liverpool still misses the Senegalese Sadio Mane a lot. The Reds made use of Mo Salah’s side of the flank and there was much effort there to enter Chelsea’s box from the flank. The visitors did well to block the moves.

Mane left the team during the last summer transfer. He couldn’t agree with Liverpool for a new deal and he moved to Bayern Munich. Liverpool must have thought that it would cope without the African cup of nations winner.

Despite signing Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s performance is far below average as they struggle to even make a point in a game.

It’s not about buying players.

Both clubs have tried to reinforce their squads so as to catch up with Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs. The new players the two teams have signed contributed nothing significant to the teams.

Chelsea rushed to the market to buy Shaktar Donetsk player Mudryk. He came on in the second half of the game. Little was his contribution even though he dribbled and made some accurate passes. Chelsea also bought the Spaniard, Cucurella from Brighton.

Chelsea brought in Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Baldire and a host of others shortly after Bohely took over the affairs of the club as owner. Yet the Blues are in number ten on the log after 20 matches.

The same thing is applicable to Liverpool. Cody Gakpo was initially linked to Manchester United during the last FIFA World Cup. Perhaps his compatriot, Virgil van Diryk convinced him to snub the Red Devils for Liverpool. He joined Merseyside team for £35m apart from ad-ons.

The Uruguayan star, who is often compared with Erling Halaand, Darwin Nunez has got only one goal for the club in the English Premier League. He has missed lots of chances that could have moved Liverpool a bit up.

Two confused coaches.

Jorgen Klopp has had a very fantastic stay in Liverpool. He has won the domestic trophies and the UEFA Champions League for the club. But at this moment, he seems to have lost the steam. He doesn’t know the appropriate measures to take to lift Liverpool up the middle of the table.

He couldn’t really argue that his team is suffering from injuries. His key players are available and no position is vacuum. His own era may be moving to an end.

Harry Potter has even complained that Chelsea is a difficult team to lead. He didn’t provide reasons or evidence for this. The German Thomas Tuchel inherited a poorer team, but he turned things around and won the champions league.

The former Brighton coach has won as fewer as 6 EPL games for the team. He however isn’t under any pressure as the British media look away. Both Liverpool and Chelsea suffer from poor coaching.
