Lagos Taskforce Wages War Against Illegal Parks & Bus Stops

The Lagos State Taskforce has carried out an operation at Adeniji-Adele Area and next routes along with Awolowo Way. Ipobo Street, which is close to Ikeja Under Bridge, was included in the operation to get rid of illegal bus parks and bus stops.

The taskforce alleged that the operators of the parks and bus stops are responsible for the gridlocks in the areas as well as other parts of the state. Mr. Adetayo Akerele, the taskforce chairman led the operation. The agency confiscated 84 vehicles during the exercise.

Akerele expressed concerns over the disruptive actions of commercial bus drivers (danfo), highlighting prolonged traffic delays that negatively affect both motorists and commercial activities.

He said: “Slow traffic movements are majorly caused by the activities of a few recalcitrant drivers. The obstruction being experienced during the rush hours results in spillovers extending to the Third Mainland Bridge and Kodesoh Street respectively, thereby making those areas impassable to motorists.

“Motorists do not have to spend long travel time on these routes due to the actions of a few. Occupying one or two lanes to create illegal bus parks is completely unacceptable and we are here to let these operators know that. If they want to pick up or drop off passengers, go to the designated bus parks”.
