Lagos Guber Poll: Reality sets in for Funke Akindele
The ace Nollywood star, Funke Akindele, must have been convinced that she would win the Lagos guber Poll along with her principal, both of whom jointly flied the flag of the People’s Democratic Party in the election.
Ms Akindele is really popular as an actor with several films she has produced or feature in. But she didn’t know that there is no relationship or correlation between politics and entertainment. This has become more evident in the Lagos guber poll.
She was the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP and she thought that millions of her followers on Instagram would come out to vote for her and Jandor. They both lost.
When the PDP governorship candidate picked her for the race, there were celebrations and lots of congratulatory messages for her on the social media platforms. She enjoyed the moment and wouldn’t contemplate the reality.
The Lagos guber poll held on Saturday, 18 March. The performance of the PDP was far more horrible than expectation. The Nollywood actress couldn’t help her principal to get up to 100,000 votes out of slightly over 1,000,000 votes from Lagos State.
Both Abdulazeez Adediran (Jandor) and Funke Akindele scored only 63,849 votes. They came third even behind Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour of the Labour Party.
After the Lagos guber poll, Ms Akindele swiftly deleted all posts related to politics from her Instagram page. She took all of them perhaps having realized that the number she has on the pages are insignificant.
