Kogi election petition tribunal to begin sitting on Saturday

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Kogi State will commence sitting on Saturday, just two weeks after the 11 November poll, which the All Progressives Congress candidate Usman Ahmed Ododo won.

He beat his two closest rivals including Murtala Ajaka, who came third and Dino Melaye, who came far third. Ajaka flew the flag of the Social Democratic Party while Melaye used the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Secretary of the petition tribunal David Umar-Mike made the announcement on Thursday that the sitting would start on Saturday.

The secretary talked in Lokoja, the state capital. He explained how the tribunal would go about the matter.

He said, “By God’s grace, the tribunal will be sitting this Saturday, November 25. We will take ex parte motions; this is because all we have at hand right now are the ex parte motions that will be taken on that Saturday.

“But the work proper may take a few more days because counsels will have to go and start looking for documents at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the rest of them before they file their various petitions.”

Online Parrot News reported widespread of electoral malpractices and violence in the election. The Independent National Electoral Commission also confirmed that pre-recorded results sheets (form EC8A) were taken to some polling units in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area of the state.
