Key voters Tinubu has snubbed totally
There are millions of key voters Tinubu has snubbed almost totally as he goes around the country with his entourage. The APC candidate may have been oblivious of the key role youths would play in the general elections.
Bola Tinubu was in Lagos when the carnage happened at the now very popular Lekki Tollgate. Nigerian youths had gathered at the gate to protest against police brutality under the hashtag #Endsars.
The youths, of course, constitute the key voters Tinubu has snubbed in his serious struggle to take over from Muhammadu Buhari, the incumbent president.
According to the statistics released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), youths make up the largest percentage of voters across the country. The incident in Lagos state actually contributed so much to the readiness of the youths to participate in the election.
Nationally and prior to the current electioneering, voting has literally been left for the adults. But with the rapid rise in inflation coupled with high unemployment rate, youths now want to determine who wins the election and subsequently rules the country.
Bola Tinubu, who claims to know how to win election, has more or less taken his attention away from the youths. He hardly talks about them and what he intends to do for them if he emerges. More worrisome is the fact that Yoruba youths do not queue behind him.
The fact that Peter Obi can gain ground and appeal to Yoruba youth is far more worrisome, whereas Tinubu doesn’t seem to care as he moves on as if nothing has changed or will change on the long run.
It’s not about inciting ethnic rivalry or rekindling the tribalistic politics in the country. But of all places, Tinubu is supposed to he warmly received and supported by all and sundry at least for the fact that he has established himself firmly amongst Yoruba people including youths.
The 2023 general elections are moving in such a rapid speed. And the key voters Tinubu has snubbed may end up being his albatross for his “lifelong ambition”.
