Key states Peter Obi can help Labour Party win

The Labour Party presidential candidate and ex Anambra State governor Peter Obi can help the party win some key states in the federation and put the party as the third force in the federation.

During the last general elections, the Labour Party ruffled the political terrain by winning at least 11 states apart from the Federal Capital Territory. It would be a big shock at least considering the fact that elections have always been between two key parties at the state level.

Peter Obi can deploy his loose movement to make the political party cause another upset to the system. Some states are up for grab for the Labour Party if what happened on 25 February reoccurs.

Lagos state is of course the biggest target of the party and the movement. In fact, winning the commercial capital of the country means a lot not only to the Labour Party, but also to the political system which seems ro have adopted the All Progressives Congress as the single party.

Peter Obi beat Bola Tinubu with a narrow margin in the presidential election. The Obidient movement celebrated this particular victory as it shows their commitment, readiness and willingness to bring an end to the Tinubu’s grip on power in the state.

Some commentators said that if the election were a guber poll, Peter Obi would be getting ready for his inauguration. But it’s a presidential election. The Labour Party eventually lost at the national level. Yet its gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour can beat the incumbent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Delta State can be a target for the Labour Party as well and Peter Obi can influence what’s going to happen there. Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa is seeking another term in office. The PDP seemed to have lost its steam in the oil rich state of Delta.

The ex Anambra State governor Peter Obi beat Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa in that state. The margin was so wide that one wouldn’t believe that Okowa was running as a vice presidential candidate.

Moreso, the candidate of the APC, Mr. Ovie Omo-Agege has lots of issues with the leadership of the political party. Surely, therefore, the door is open for the Labour Party to clinch victory in Delta state. There doesn’t seem to be a barrier stopping the party.

Rivers State is also on the list. Mr. Nyesom Wike will want to retain the state for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) even though the party couldn’t stop the All Progressives Congress from claiming victory in the last general elections. The reasons aren’t difficult to know or identify.

Labour Party can make use of the issues PDP has to coast home victory in Rivera state. Recall that there is internal rancour in the Rivers APC as well. Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Mr. Tony Okocha are at loggerheads over the leadership of the party.

If Obi gives the maximum support, the Labour Party can win Rivers State along with Lagos and Delta. And that would be an enough success for the party, the third force in the country.
